Let me start with impact first. You want to give this one guard a hug something fierce. Just the heartbroken look he has, the scene, and the lighting all amount to being a huge deal. even the chip out of the armor's crest, the cracks in the hoof armor, or the waterlogged tail and crest.

Now, as things go, I can not speak for the art work involved. I am not an artist. But I have a wonderful appreciation for the level of detail here. You have the sea moving and shifting in a natural view, the rocks are weathered, and shaded right.

The shading too is an excellent work. The light from above is providing clear lines of where it hits, and shadows it provides as well from things show clearly. It can be summed up simply as you put experience and work into this, and boy howdy, it shows.

This is a somber piece, and the one whom did the commission so very much got their money's worth out of this stellar gem.
